Most people will immediately scoff at the notion that this sandwich can’t possibly be better than something they could get at countless other brunches around the city, but I assure you this sandwich is special.  First, it’s served on Texas toast, which is thick enough to contain and absorb all the egg while not being too thick and chewy, which is often the case with a bagel.  The eggs are scrambled perfectly and held together by just the right amount of cheddar cheese as not to overwhelm the taste buds.  The key, though, is the bacon.  Sliced thicker than in any restaurant I can recall, it’s cooked to just the right level of crispness to blend perfectly with the soft eggs and cheese.

Not only will you be treated to this amazing sandwich, but all of Regi’s brunch items are served with fantastic home fries that, again, are prepared crispy but not burnt.  When you wake up this Sunday after a night of drinking Bohs to celebrate the Ravens win over the Colts, consider heading to Regi’s for a panini that’s sure to start your day right.

Here is my analysis of the situation.  I was admittedly a bandwagon fan of the Capitals last year.  I attended one game, watched a few more, but did not follow them religiously until the playoffs and have only watched one game so far this season.  The Baltimore sports gods made my pay dearly for my transgressions when the Capitals lost to another team from Pittsburgh.  That made two playoff losses to Pittsburgh in a 6 month span.  I clearly learned my lesson.

Is it possible for us to be true fans of DC teams?  Does that fact they are not from Baltimore mean are rooting interests are inherently bandwagon?  They are the closest teams to us geographically, but it is not quite the same as having Baltimore on the jersey.  They don’t represent us in the way that the Orioles and Ravens do.  I know the Terps play just outside of DC, but they are the MARYLAND Terps so they represent us as well.  How can we root for a Hockey team from DC when we despise the football team?  We will never really fit in with the rest of the fan base.  The Caps game that I attended last year was the Thursday before the Ravens-Skins matchup and we got in several altercations with Redskins fans.  We know little about the DC and its sports history, which are vital parts of being a sports fan.  How could you ever fit in as a Baltimore sports fan if you did not know the story of the Colts skipping town?  Your whole mindset would not be in sync with the rest of the community.

I also wonder if I even have room in my heart or on my schedule for another team.  If there was a Baltimore hockey team would be as diehard about it as the Ravens, Orioles, and Terps?  Right now I have three teams whose schedules fit perfectly so I can have a team to root for at all times during the year.  Maybe this is why Baltimore sports fans are so much better than sports fans from Boston and DC.  Our passion for our teams is more focused and not spread out between 5 or 6 teams.  If the Ravens are struggling we can’t turn NBA or NHL teams and hop on that bandwagon instead.  We are stuck with our teams whether they have made the playoffs in consecutive seasons or are have 13 straight losing seasons.

Bohs and O’s contributors and readers please share with me your thoughts on Baltimoreans’ fanhood of DC sports teams.  Can we ever be true fans?  As Baltimore sports fans should we even try to root for DC teams or should we focus on our own teams?  This may lead to the broader question of what it means to be a true Baltimore sports fan.

Bohs and O’s strongly encourages our readers to show up to this event. Not only is it a chance to see a reality celebrity, but it’s also a great opportunity to make fun of a reality celebrity. We haven’t seen such a pathetic and wildly delusional character as The Situation since the critically acclaimed Fox series, Paradise Hotel.

Bohs and O’s actually tried to start a twitter war with the Situation, but he was too much of a wuss to take on our superior intellects, not to mention biceps.

The event was being shown live on Versus so that led to numerous commercial breaks in between each round, but they had a rodeo clown emcee who did a nice job keeping everyone entertained as we waited for the next potential sternum gorging from Code Blue, Big Tex, or Voodoo Child. During each round there were almost no breaks in the action.  They have a complex setup at one end of the arena with 6 loading docks connected to the fenced in areas where the bulls are kept.  When one rider was either bucked or completed 8 seconds there was always another rider ready to go.

One thing that surprised me, and everyone in our group, was the number of Brazilian’s competing.  Three of last years top 5 riders were from Brazil and there were numerous others who rode throughout the night.  Although none of the cowboys were from Maryland there were several local Bulls who we obviously were hoping would celebrate their victories by ramming their horns into the defeated cowboys against the fence; hereby displaying Maryland’s dominance to all of the out-of-towners in attendance.  Alas, there was no bloodshed, but some of the cowboys (the pathetic ones) were prepared with what most closely resembled box lacrosse helmets.  This really took away from the feel of the rodeo, men riding bulls without cowboy hats.  I’m no expert on the subject, but what kind of professional bull rider can respect himself wearing a helmet instead of a cowboy hat during competition.  If you want to wear one in practice when no one is around be my guest, but when you’re trying to represent yourself and the professional bull riders tour it doesn’t help your image to be wearing a big, dorky helmet instead of a cowboy hat.  Step up to the plate helmet wearers; you’re supposed to resemble this when you get up on that bucking bronco.

All in all it was a great evening at the rodeo and I can’t wait until the 2011 Baltimore Invitational.   It’ll be tough to wait another whole year, but luckily Monster Jam will be at the Arena at the end of February to keep us entertained.  You can be sure Bohs and O’s won’t miss that event either.
